AROSE – Conservative Aquaculture of Ostrea edulis: to restore a natural resou
rce and durable exploitation

In parallel with the research project REFONA 1 & 2 lead in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the project AROSE aims to study the potential of a conservative aquaculture of Ostrea edulis in Charente-Maritime.

AROSE is mainly working on testing native oyster farming in different kinds of claire (specific marshes of Charente-Maritime) and different areas on the foreshore to evaluate the support oyster farmers can bring in the conservation of Ostrea edulis.

The project also has actions in marine parasitology: the spatial sampling with the 8 sites of AROSE will allow us to have a better understanding of Marteilia refringens and Bonamia ostreae repartition. Parasitology analysis will be carried out in three compartments : individual, sediment and nanoplankton, to have a better understanding of the parasite contamination cycle.

AROSE is a project led by CAPENA, funded by the FEAMP and CAPENA. Ifremer and the ASIM (Adaptation Health of the Marine Invertebrate) unity is a partner of the project. The project started in July 2024 and will end in August 2027.
