Oyster reefs provide important ecosystem services and high ecological value in all marine waters. Large- and small-scale restoration of oyster reef habitats all over the world has been started already more than 10 years ago. Scientists, governmental and non-governmental organisations, but also oyster farmers are engaged in the protection of different oyster species and the restoration of oyster reefs.
