3rd – 5th November 2020 | The Netherlands, Rotterdam

(Please register asap, latest until October 3rd.)

The Native Oyster Restoration Alliance, the European network for the restoration of the native oyster Ostrea edulis, announces its 3rd conference.

NORA 3 will take place in the Mainport hotel in Rotterdam, the Netherlands from 3 to 5 November 2020. The conference will be free of charge.

We strongly encourage all those who are part of the Native Oyster restoration community, from science, nature conservation, government, offshore industry and project funders through to growers of this iconic species to attend this conference. Get information about the scope of work, successes and lessons learned from projects in the region, the latest research results and join us for knowledge exchange and network building!

This year’s conference “NORA Moving Forward” will be mainly structured around plenary sessions. Plenary topics include:

  • site selection
  • monitoring
  • biosecurity
  • oyster production
  • restoration pilot results
  • management and legislation.

New restoration projects will be given the opportunity to introduce themselves and there will be speed-dating sessions for research, outreach and collaborative opportunities. NORA Working Groups will have the opportunity to meet and to present ongoing efforts within the NORA network. In addition, a PhD session is planned for the beginning of day 1 (morning).

We are delighted to announce key note speeches by oyster restoration initiators from Australia and the US West Coast, allowing us to look beyond the European marine waters for sources of knowledge and experience on restoration of native oysters.

In addition, an excursion to Yerseke, the Dutch centre for oyster production and research, will be organized in the afternoon of November the 5th

Please note that the organizing committee will be reviewing developments and public health advice with regards to Covid19 and will update registered participants over the summer as to whether the conference will be able to go ahead.
